Tweens: A Positive Psychology Family Intervention for Adolescents with Depression- or Anxiety-related Symptomatology

Abstract Positive psychology is the scientific study of human thoughts, feelings and behaviour that focuses on building resources rather than treating illness. The current pilot utilised qualitative methods to explore an intervention, ‘Tweens’, based proven from positive psychology. Tweens was designed be suitable for adolescents aged 11–14, who experienced symptoms depression, anxiety, or stress. A defining feature it included both afflicted children their parents, first examine a family intervention this target group. Using Constructive Grounded Theory, sought determine what meaning, if any, participants ascribed how they integrated into daily lives. also investigated why some did not find meaningful effective. results show meaningfulness can divided three main categories: (1) sense belonging togetherness, (2) utility tools were taught, (3) An increased mindsight learning choose actions mindfully. are discussed in light broaden-and-build theory: when parents have shared knowledge vocabulary talking about well-being, supportive upward spirals occur. All perceive as meaningful, we discuss variations depressiveness, problematic life circumstances possible flaws reasons this.
